Common questions

Start with the usual fixes.

SiftFrame is a local app, so most fixes involve a macOS permission, a selected folder, or a local index state.

Why does SiftFrame need Screen Recording permission?

macOS requires this permission for screenshot and screen-recording capture. Open SiftFrame Settings › Recording to request permission or review its status. A quit and reopen may be needed after macOS grants access. SiftFrame processes captures locally and does not send them to a server.

Why is a screenshot folder not updating?

SiftFrame can watch only folders you explicitly select with the macOS folder picker. Remove the folder from SiftFrame and add it again to refresh its permission. Folder scanning is non-recursive, so files in nested subfolders are not included.

Does removing an item delete my original file?

Metadata-only removal takes the item out of the SiftFrame library but preserves the original screenshot or recording. Move Original to Trash is a separate action with a confirmation warning. Exports also happen only when you choose a destination.

How do I restore SiftFrame Pro?

Open SiftFrame Settings › General and choose Restore Purchase while signed in to the Mac App Store with the Apple ID used for the original purchase. SiftFrame Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

Why did search miss a screenshot?

Check that the item finished indexing, then try a shorter phrase or a filename, title, tag, source hint, or date. Images with little readable text appear in Needs Context and can be made searchable with your own title or note. OCR quality depends on image clarity and the languages enabled in Settings.

Which files can SiftFrame import?

SiftFrame supports PNG, JPG, JPEG, and HEIC images plus MP4, MOV, and M4V recordings. It accesses only files and folders you choose through macOS pickers.

How do I clear SiftFrame data?

Open Settings and use Reset SiftFrame. This removes SiftFrame’s local library data, preferences, indexes, thumbnails, OCR data, saved searches, and watched-folder connections. Original screenshot and recording files remain in place.
